Born in Reims, in the heart of Champagne country in France, but raised in Marseilles, Composer, Guitarist, Accordionist and 30's cabaret performer MADER's musical loves are diverse and wide-ranging. A young Taiwanese director, Ang Lee discovered him in New York, where they found success together with two films which set a tone and established his quirky and melodic film scoring voice. Both 'The Wedding Banquet' and 'Eat Drink Man Woman' were big successes worldwide and were vividly lifted by the idiosyncratic and unique musical touch which the composer brought to them. An ongoing friendship with Alexandre Rockwell, independent filmmaker and auteur whose feature 'In the Soup' won the Grand Prize at the Sundance Festival burnished the composer's reputation further. Many scores have followed. His new CD CINEMUSICA to be released this summer is a collection of some of Mader's favourite pieces from his publishing and recording catalogues, incorporating material from the early days in New York to the choicest of his recent musical explorations in Los Angeles.

At the age of 5, transfixed by the gramophone renditions of 1920's popular French music ranging from the songs of Frehel to the impressionistic sounds of Maurice Ravel, and later the scores of Nino Rota, Morricone and Mancini to be inspirations, Mader's original palette has given birth to a series of memorably quirky melodies which have added the richest of colours to numerous films. Themes are haunting but not disturbing, catchy but not facile. The CD features 27 tracks owned and controlled by the Composer from some of his films ranging from 'Eat, Drink, Man, Woman' with its classic Cuban and Latin shadings to the bluesy Americana of 'Morgan's Ferry', from the barroom jazz of 'In the Soup' to the offbeat romance of 'The Wedding Banquet', from the sombre and dramatic moments in the Pakistan of the late Benazir 'Bhutto'', a competitor in the 2010 Sundance Festival to the noir shadings and the intense relationships in 2010's 'Mercy'. Mader's music is indelible and unique, fresh as 'Recycled Life' the 2009 Academy Award nominated film which gleams from his bookshelf. Mader is represented by The Derek Power Company.
